Slightly skewed towards positive because I was there, but this recording is absolutely brilliant!
Steve (d3gourds) has done us a huge favor. This was the third Higher Ground show of recent history. The first two were great, the band pulled out all the stops for this one. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.

It is a good mix and all, but sounds kind of distant and a little tinny, like it was made on a cassette and aged since 1977. Which is kind of cool, because the music sounds like it is from 1977 (in the best way). Can't give it 5 stars but it is a good show and worth a listen.

Soundboard & Sahm
making an audience tape at the higher ground isn't impossible, but the layout doesn't exactly make it easy, so I opted for a straight board recording on this show. generally, I don't trust boards, partly b/c you can't assume the mix on the tape will sound anything like what you're hearing in the room...but the gourds' soundman, mark creaney, is a real pro and he did a great job (as usual). the show itself was solid, too, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that a conversation I had with kev about doug sahm a few hours before the show turned into a rare cover of crossroads during the encore.
